Working for the Man

The kids are in the kitchen, we start early but it’s long before the shift is done
Working without ambition breaking sweat, taking orders as and when they come
This job is killing my social swimming. I find I’m talking shop instead of thinking free
I need to snap out of this condition before I lose my mind to the grind of the corporate machine.
Been Working, working for the man
Need the money. I’m doing what I can
The clock’s ticking…I don’t’ know how much longer I can stand
Detergents have got me itching. These dark and soapy nights have got me feeling down
I try to push on a little further but Instead of moving forward we go round and around
The machines are in my head, I can’t escape the clank bang of the pots and pans
I try to wash the problems from my mind but no matter how hard I scrub can’t get the grease off of my hands
Been Working, working for the man
Need the money. I’m doing what I can
The clock’s ticking…I don’t’ know how much longer I can stand
…Clocks ticking, don’t know how much longer I can…The clock’s ticking, I don’t know how much longer I can…the clock’s ticking….
Working for the man…Working for the man…
